In 1957, U.S. narcotics agent Charles Sturgis (Victor Mature) begins in New York with his sister dead of an addiction fed by the kingpin Frank McNally (Trevor Howard). His search follows McNally's associate through London, Lisbon, Rome, Naples and Athens. John Gilling sends Sturgis after Gina Broger (Anita Ekberg), and every city he reaches puts him a little closer to her.
