Intimacy

(2001)Directed by Patrice Chéreau120 minRomance, Drama, Fantasy
“Every Wednesday. She meets him once per week.”

Jay (Mark Rylance) is a failed musician who left his family and now works as head bartender at a trendy London pub. Every Wednesday afternoon a woman comes to his house for graphic, almost wordless sex, then leaves. When he follows Claire (Kerry Fox) out one day, the arrangement begins to give way. Chéreau films the encounters without any show of tenderness or shame, and sets them against pop songs from the 1970s and 1980s.
