In a quiet corner of suburban London, Maggie (Marianne Faithfull) is a retiring grandmother who has never done much beyond looking after her family. Her grandson is seriously ill, the one chance of treating him costs money she doesn't have, and Sam Garbarski follows her as she goes looking for work that will pay it. Every week she waits, the boy gets worse, and her own sense of what she can bear gets smaller.
