Irreversible

“Time destroys everything.”

Marcus (Vincent Cassel) and Pierre (Albert Dupontel) leave a Paris party and go looking for the man who raped and beat Alex (Monica Bellucci), the woman they both love. Gaspar Noé tells the night in reverse, one long scene at a time, so the search comes first and its cause comes last. His film argues, plainly, that anger and revenge are natural impulses, and that no act can be taken back once it is done.
