“Power....Authority....Position....”

Anandan (Mohanlal) is a struggling actor in Tamil Nadu who wants a place in the film industry, and he finds it beside Tamil Selvam (Prakash Raj), a poet with a pen and a political cause. Mani Ratnam sets their story against cinema and Dravidian politics, loosely drawn from the lives of M. G. Ramachandran and M. Karunanidhi. What holds the film together is the friendship between the two men.
