“Loyalty has a scent. And it smells like rebellion.”

Chief (Bryan Cranston) is a stray with a bad temper who wants nothing to do with people, and he scavenges a garbage-dump island where a Japanese city has banished every dog after an outbreak of canine flu. Then Atari Kobayashi (Koyu Rankin), a 12-year-old boy, arrives looking for his pet. Wes Anderson builds the island out of stop-motion fur and trash, and Chief has to decide whether he can stand to be anyone's dog.
