Arthur Pimm (Roddy McDowall) is a museum assistant who has spent his working life in the shadow of his director, Harold Grove (Ernest Clark). After a warehouse fire, a single statue stands in the wreckage without a mark on it, and Pimm learns it was made by Rabbi Loew in the 16th century and cannot be destroyed. Herbert J. Leder puts it in front of Pimm like an offer, a stone figure that has outlasted the fire and Grove.
