A creature has been feeding in the water off the California coast, and the Navy cannot say what it is. Cmdr. Pete Mathews (Kenneth Tobey) brings in marine scientists Lesley Joyce (Faith Domergue) and John Carter (Donald Curtis), who trace it to the Mindanao Deep and the radiation from H-bomb tests. Robert Gordon builds the hunt around Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion creature, and every port on the coast is now in its reach.
