“A cop. A waitress. A lottery ticket.”

A diner check, an empty wallet, and a lottery ticket Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage) has no reason to think is worth anything. A New York cop with no cash left to tip, he promises waitress Yvonne Biasi (Bridget Fonda) half of whatever he wins.
