He talks a hat check girl, Anne Terry (Deanna Durbin), into playing the part, and Henry Koster has her walk into the sickroom of Jonathan Reynolds (Charles Laughton). The old man takes one look at her, sits up in bed, and the room that was meant for a deathbed fills with his appetite.
