Captain C. G. Culpepper (Spencer Tracy) is a veteran police officer who has been working a case for years, and he is about to watch a crowd of strangers run past him. Stanley Kramer opens on a car crash and a dying man's whispered directions to $350,000 buried in California, and Milton Berle and Sid Caesar are two of the drivers who stop to hear it. Within a minute they are in their cars, and Culpepper sits at his desk with the phone.
