On Christmas Eve, $8,000 goes missing from the Bailey Building and Loan, and George Bailey (James Stewart) finds himself in more trouble than he has ever been in. For years George has put the people of Bedford Falls ahead of himself, while Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore), a rich and stingy man, waits for the little company to fail so he can own the town. Frank Capra keeps the camera close on Stewart's face as the pressure builds.
