Ixcanul

On a coffee plantation at the foot of an active volcano in Guatemala, María (María Mercedes Coroy), a 17-year-old Kaqchikel Maya, lives with her parents and waits to be married to the farm's foreman. Jayro Bustamante, in his debut, shot the film in the Kaqchikel language, a first for Mayan-language cinema. María wants to know what lies on the far side of the mountain, a place she cannot picture, and she is willing to risk everything for a way there.
