Jabberwocky

(1977)Directed by Terry Gilliam105 min · PGFantasy, Comedy
“Jabberwocky: the monster so horrible that people caught the plague to avoid it”

Dennis Cooper (Michael Palin) is a cooper's apprentice who wants a modest life and a respectable trade, but his father dies and sends him into town to make his fortune. The kingdom there is frightened of a monster called the Jabberwocky, and its ruler, King Bruno the Questionable (Max Wall), offers little help. Terry Gilliam, in his first film as sole director, shoots the medieval mud and squalor with a flat, grainy realism and lets the slapstick play out inside it.
