Jacob the Liar

In a Jewish ghetto in Eastern Europe in 1944, Jakob Heym (Vlastimil Brodský) overhears a German radio broadcast saying the Soviet Army is moving toward central Europe. He tells his friend Mischa (Henry Hübchen) to keep him from risking his life for a few potatoes, and claims he owns a radio, which the ghetto punishes by death. Frank Beyer follows the rumor as it spreads, with Jakob left to invent the next piece of news.
