Jane B. by Agnès V.

(1988)Directed by Agnès Varda99 minFantasy

Jane Birkin is about to turn forty and says the birthday makes her anxious, so her friend Agnès Varda proposes a portrait. Over one year, Birkin plays herself and also Calamity Jane and Joan Arc, with Jean-Pierre Léaud as an angry lover and Philippe Léotard as a painter. Varda's idea is that a woman is more than the face the public has kept.
