A great white shark is killing swimmers off the beach at Amity, a New England resort town, and Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) is the one who has to say so. Steven Spielberg puts Brody on a boat with the marine biologist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and the shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw), the three of them chasing the animal. With the summer crowds still arriving, every day it stays unfound is another day the water fills with people.
