A minute of one ordinary day from a year ago is supposed to be all the experiment gives back. Claude Ridder (Claude Rich), just out of the hospital after a suicide attempt, volunteers to be the first person sent through time, after only mice. Alain Resnais follows him as the machine fails and his past arrives in scraps, Catherine (Olga Georges-Picot) turning up in a different room each time.
