Judas Iscariot (Carl Anderson) wants the movement to stay true to what Jesus (Ted Neeley) first taught. He watches the crowds grow and the man at the center begin to believe his own press. Norman Jewison frames the last week as a play staged by a traveling troupe, and Judas, who sees Jesus drifting toward Mary Magdalene (Yvonne Elliman) and away from the message, has to decide how far he will go to stop it.
