“Give a father no options and you leave him no choice.”

John Quincy Archibald (Denzel Washington) is a father and husband whose young son collapses and is diagnosed with an enlarged heart. His HMO will not cover the transplant, and he learns the boy will not even be placed on the donor list. Nick Cassavetes follows John into a hospital emergency room, where Dr. Raymond Turner (James Woods) and Lt. Frank Grimes (Robert Duvall) face a man holding the room hostage, his wife Denise (Kimberly Elise) waiting on the other side.
