Johnny Belinda

(1948)Directed by Jean Negulesco102 minDrama
“There was temptation in her helpless silence...and then torment”

Belinda McDonald (Jane Wyman) is a deaf-mute farm girl who has grown up without language, living with her father Black (Charles Bickford) and her aunt Aggie (Agnes Moorehead). A small-town doctor, Robert Richardson (Lew Ayres), starts teaching her to communicate, and Jean Negulesco follows the slow work of it. The people around her have been satisfied for years to leave her silent, and Locky McCormick (Stephen McNally) is one of them.
