Jancsi (György Cserhalmi) is a young shepherd who sets out from a Hungarian village into a country of love, war, magic and death. Marcell Jankovics draws his journey from a traditional poetic fairytale, and the voices include Iluska (Anikó Nagy), the girl Jancsi loves, and a gruff robber chief (Gábor Mádi Szabó). The film is hand-drawn, and the drawing is thick with ornament and color.
