Johnny Got His Gun

(1971)Directed by Dalton Trumbo112 min · PGWar, Drama
“The most shattering experience you'll ever live.”

A man lies in a hospital bed, unable to tell the doctors standing over him that anything is left inside. Joe Bonham (Timothy Bottoms) was a young American soldier before an artillery shell in the First World War, and in his pseudocoma he goes back through his life, to Kareen (Kathy Fields), to his father (Jason Robards), to the house he came from. Dalton Trumbo, adapting his own novel, keeps the present in a small bed in a dark room.
