Johnny Kapahala (Brandon Baker), a teenage snowboarding champion from Vermont, flies to Oahu for the wedding of his grandfather, the local surf legend Johnny Tsunami (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). Eric Bross sets him down in a house with a new step-grandmother and her 12-year-old son Chris (Jake T. Austin), Johnny's uncle on paper, who wants no part of the marriage. Chris would rather ride with a bully's mountain boarding crew than follow his new family.
