“Johnny Played Rough With Women Who Played Cute!”

Johnny O'Clock (Dick Powell) is a partner in an illegal casino who looks after himself first and has never tied himself to anyone. When an employee of the house dies under suspicious circumstances, her sister Nancy (Evelyn Keyes) comes asking questions, and Inspector Koch (Lee J. Cobb) is already watching the place. Robert Rossen sets Johnny and Nancy against the casino's pressure, and the trouble is that he starts to want her to stay.
