Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) decodes a distress signal from his missing grandfather Alexander (Michael Caine) on a mysterious island that shouldn't exist. To find him, Sean convinces his reluctant stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson) to join the expedition with a local pilot and his daughter. What begins as a rescue mission becomes a test of whether these two men can trust each other enough to survive.
