Journey to Italy

Eight years into their marriage, Katherine (Ingrid Bergman) and Alex Joyce (George Sanders) drive toward Naples to sell a villa left to him by an uncle, and somewhere on the road they realize they have never been alone together this long. Roberto Rossellini sends them in separate directions once they arrive, two English strangers with a house to sort out. Katherine stands in the villa's quiet rooms, Alex somewhere else, the inherited furniture between them.
