Journey to the Center of the Earth

A scrap of writing left behind by a vanished explorer sends Sir Oliver S. Lindenbrook (James Mason), an Edinburgh professor, to Iceland and the mouth of an extinct volcano. His student Alec McKuen (Pat Boone) and the widow Carla Göteborg (Arlene Dahl) go with him, and Henry Levin films the descent as a Verne adventure with Bernard Herrmann's score underneath. Another man wants the same discovery, and the way down leaves them no road back.
