“Innocence Lost... Courage Found”

Nobody in the dugout will say why Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin) has started drinking before the shelling does. Saul Dibb sets the story in the Aisne in 1918, where young Raleigh (Asa Butterfield) arrives to join the company, having asked for a place under the man he once idolized. The officers wait around Stanhope's table, and he keeps himself upright by degrees, one bottle at a time.
