Julien Donkey-Boy

(1999)Directed by Harmony Korine100 min · RDrama
“A fascinating journey into the mind of an adolescent schizophrenic.”

Julien (Ewen Bremner) has untreated schizophrenia and wants only to stay close to the family he lives with: his pregnant sister Pearl (Chloë Sevigny), his brother Chris, his grandmother, and a German father (Werner Herzog) who is depressed and abusive. Harmony Korine follows them through one household with no diagnosis and no help. The film shows how a family can hold love and cruelty in the same room, and how nobody there has words for either.
