Juno and the Paycock

(1930)Directed by Alfred Hitchcock94 minDrama
“The "Over-The-Hill" of the Talkies.”

Nobody in the Boyle household can say where the money is coming from, only that it is coming, and the whole tenement starts spending it on the strength of a rumor. Captain Boyle (Edward Chapman) boasts and loafs and runs up debts, while Juno (Sara Allgood) keeps the family fed in the slums of Dublin during the Civil War. Hitchcock shoots it as a stage play on screen, and it closes on Juno at the table in her bare room.
