A secret hidden from the world for decades sits on an island, and Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) is hired to retrieve genetic material from the three biggest dinosaurs alive. Her team, including Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) and Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), runs into a family whose boat has capsized, and everyone ends up stranded on the same island. Gareth Edwards keeps his camera low and close, so the animals always look larger than the people.
