Just Mercy

“Every generation has its hero. Meet ours.”

In Alabama, Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan), a Harvard-educated lawyer, arrives to defend poor prisoners on death row. His most urgent client is Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), sentenced to die for the murder of a young woman despite evidence proving his innocence. Destin Daniel Cretton follows the case through legal filings and prison visits, and the film's argument is plain: a justice system can be stacked against the people who need it most.
