K-19: The Widowmaker
“Fate has found its hero.”
Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford) wants the command of K-19, Russia's first nuclear submarine, and he gets it in 1961, after Moscow replaces the crew's trusted captain Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson) with him. Kathryn Bigelow sends the boat out on its maiden voyage under that split command, with a ship that begins to malfunction. Vostrikov stands at the periscope, the crew pressed in around him, the hull closed on every side.
