“To solve a mystery he will enter a nightmare.”

When a colleague at the insurance office turns up dead, Kafka (Jeremy Irons) goes looking for answers and ends up among an underground group, led in part by Gabriela (Theresa Russell), that wants to stop a secret organization from controlling society. Steven Soderbergh builds the film as a thriller around the writer's own life. Irons stays in frame at the end, still the clerk with the insurance work behind him and the case in front of him.
