Roop Chaudhry (Alia Bhatt) wants a place in the Chaudhry household, a wealthy family in 1945 whose solemn rooms leave little space for what she wants. Abhishek Varman sets that house against Hira Mandi, the town's noisy, musical underbelly, where Zafar (Varun Dhawan) is known as a daredevil. When Roop meets him, buried secrets of betrayal and affairs start to surface, and she is left standing between the two worlds.
