Katalin Varga (Hilda Péter) drives a horse and cart through the Carpathian Mountains with her young son Orbán (Norbert Tankó). She has kept one secret for years, and the boy is a living reminder of it. Peter Strickland follows her from village to village toward the men she is looking for, and the film treats punishment as a road a person walks one day at a time.
