“All his life, Phil Weston has dreamed of being on a winning team. Phil...your time has come.”

Phil Weston (Will Ferrell) never made a team in his life, and his ten-year-old son Sam looks set to follow him. Then Phil's father, Buck (Robert Duvall), a hyper-competitive soccer coach, benches the boy. Jesse Dylan sets father against son across two rival teams, and Phil, who has never won anything, can't bring himself to let this one go.
