Why would anyone in the Caucasus arrange a bride's kidnapping so openly, and with such a poor choice of helpers? Shurik (Aleksandr Demyanenko), a kind and rather naïve ethnography student, falls for Nina (Natalya Varley), a sporty, sharp-minded Komsomol member. The wealthy Saakhov wants her himself and hires Balbes (Yuriy Nikulin), Trus (Georgiy Vitsin) and Byvalyy (Yevgeni Morgunov), and Leonid Gaidai stages the whole pursuit as a rapid run of gags.
