“He chopped down the family tree...”

Louis Mazzini (Dennis Price) buries his mother after her aristocratic family refuses her a place in the D'Ascoyne mausoleum, then starts counting the relatives standing between himself and a dukedom. Robert Hamer has Alec Guinness play all eight of the victims. Louis keeps two women close, Sibella (Joan Greenwood), who has known him for years, and Edith (Valerie Hobson), the widow of one man on his list.
