“De Broca's Crowning Touch!”

A mistaken order sends Charles Plumpick (Alan Bates), a Scottish soldier who watches birds for a living, alone into a French town in the last days of World War I. The Germans are pulling out, a bomb is said to be ticking, and the streets have gone strangely quiet. Philippe de Broca sends him toward the town square, where Plumpick, the only man in uniform with any job to do, has to find the thing before the hour runs out.
