King of Kings
“Of good and evil, of love and hate, of peace and war.”
Jesus (Jeffrey Hunter) wants the people of Judea to know who he is, and he goes to them one at a time, from his birth in Bethlehem through his years of preaching. Nicholas Ray fills the film with Roman soldiers, a restless Pontius Pilate (Hurd Hatfield), and crowds who either follow him or turn on him. The more people he reaches, the more danger he draws, and it is the ending of his own life that hangs over every scene.
