“It happened in Climax, Nevada”

Dino (Dean Martin), a lounge singer driving home from Vegas, gets stuck in a small town for the night after a local mechanic sabotages his car. Billy Wilder follows Orville Spooner (Ray Walston), a songwriter who offers Dino his guest room in hopes of selling him a song. Orville is so jealous he won't let his own wife near the singer, and he hires a waitress (Kim Novak) to stand in for her.
