Knock on Any Door

(1949)Directed by Nicholas Ray100 minDrama, Crime
“It will shock you but it will hold you spellbound to the end!”

Andrew Morton (Humphrey Bogart) is a lawyer who grew up in the same slums as the young man he now agrees to defend on a murder charge. Nick Romano (John Derek) lives by one line, "Live fast, die young, and have a good-looking corpse," and Nicholas Ray puts his trial in a 1949 courtroom, where Morton argues the neighborhood itself should answer for him. Derek sits at the defense table, young and still, a good-looking corpse in waiting.
