La Chinoise
“A movie in the making.”
Five students shut themselves into a borrowed Paris apartment in 1967 to study Mao. Véronique (Anne Wiazemsky) and Guillaume (Jean-Pierre Léaud) read aloud and argue, working out how their small group might remake the world through terrorism. Godard films them like a sketch for a film still being made, and the idea at its center is how easily young people mistake reciting a doctrine for living one.
