Paris in 1957, where the daughter of the French premier moves through a world of official receptions and Pierre Balmain gowns. Brigitte (Brigitte Bardot) has set her sights on Michel (Henri Vidal), one of her father's aides, and wants him settled down with her, though he cannot stop flirting with other women. Michel Boisrond's comedy turns on a plain question of fairness: she will not tolerate from him what she is willing to do herself.
