La Ronde

Franz (Serge Reggiani), a soldier in Vienna in 1900, wants nothing more than an evening with Léocadie (Simone Signoret), a prostitute he meets on the street. From there, each encounter hands one of its two people to the next, from a maid (Simone Simon) to the young man of the house (Daniel Gélin) and up through the social ranks. Max Ophüls sends his camera wheeling after them in long, gliding takes, with Anton Walbrook's narrator steering the whole carousel.
