La Traversée de Paris
“JEAN GABIN and BOURVIL in a REMARKABLE FRENCH FILM with suspense predominating of course - but also much more than just a soupcon of laughter!”
Paris, 1942, under German occupation, and the curfew is on. Marcel Martin (Bourvil), an unemployed taxi driver, takes a night job hauling four suitcases of black-market pork across the city, and ends up paired with Grandgil (Jean Gabin), a painter who joins the run on a whim. Claude Autant-Lara shoots the blacked-out streets in hard monochrome and gives Gabin and Bourvil all the room they want.
