Adele (Kate Winslet) lives with her son Henry (Gattlin Griffith), and the two of them rarely leave the house. Jason Reitman sets the story over a single holiday weekend, when a stranger named Frank (Josh Brolin) enters their lives under circumstances none of them planned. Two people who have been alone a long time find that closeness can arrive faster than they can make room for it.
