“Takes its place among the greatest pictures ever made!”

For years a New York fruit seller named Apple Annie (May Robson) has been writing to her daughter Louise, who was raised in a Spanish convent and believes her mother is a society matron. When Louise sails for New York with her fiancé and his nobleman father, Annie has no way left to keep the story from falling apart. Frank Capra gives her a few unlikely allies, among them the gambler Dave the Dude (Warren William), who is known for his superstition about her apples.
